we had to be up early for the next part of our trip - to malaysia!!! am really looking forward to seeing a new country. it was about a 5 hour minibus journey to the ferry, where we had to clear immigration and cross the boarder via sea. after a 2 hour trip on the ferry, we then had to go through malaysian immigration before we were let loose on the island of langkawi! we are now another hour ahead (7 hours ahead of home - we forgot on our first day!)
we decided to stay in pantai cenang as this is the main beach resort area. took a while choosing some accomodation as it was more expensive than what we have been paying before. our first night was spent in some grotty room which was awful. the paint was peeling off all the walls, our bed covers were scratchy, and my pillow had a massive blood stain on it! needless to say i chucked it across the room whilst gagging! we were paying more here a night than we had anywhere. (dont stay at sandy beach resort!!) luckily without our bags we had a better look around town, and found a back street with lots of cheap guesthouses. we stayed here for the rest of our time in langkawi. had our own lounge area (our evenings consisted of us getting hooked on some lame malaysian programme!) and dining table/kitchenette for a cheaper price! and it was clean!!! even had our own cat thanks to sarah feeding it. ended up stalking us during our whole stay, sneaking into our room! (okay, admittedly i fed it too!)
we were only across the street from the beach. was really long, nice sand, but very rough water! sarah and i had fun in the waves though.. being kids!
we took a trip to the langkawi cable car which was great! is one of the steepest in the world and got fantastic views. once at the top there is also a sky bridge to walk along.. slightly scary when you look over the edge! not far away was a waterfall. climbed 600 steps to reach the top where you could swim in the pools of water. we then walked a trail which took us to the bottom of the falls which was much better. went for a dip in the water which was really nice.
also visited eagle square and legends park, though not much here, apart from a giant statue of an eagle obv!!
had a couple of thunderstorms, but really enjoyed our time in langkawi :)
