Rachel - Australia and New Zealand
For my last blog I thought it'd be fun to make a list of things I've learnt in the past 2 months of travelling. I'll probably think of more on my flight so I'll keep editing this post when I come up with new ones!
Things I've learnt from travelling:
- Don't lose your passport
- Free wifi is never to be taken for granted
- $30 is a lot to pay for a boiled egg
- You'll never feel more invincible than when you are free-falling out of a plane
- You will meet some of the best people travelling...and some of the worst
- Scoring a bottom bunk is more satisfying than it should be
- St Patrick's day is a dangerous day
- The Irish can drink
- Age is irrelevant when making friends
- Brits are everywhere
- Not many people travel when they are 18
- New Zealand has my heart
- Find people who make morning bus journeys bearable and never let them go
- The best way to bond with people is to jump out of a plane with them
- Just do it, stop overthinking
- 6 hour walks are never worth it
- Toiletries will always leak, it's inevitable
- You will never feel simultaneously younger and older than whilst travelling
- Being ill whilst travelling sucks, being ill by yourself half way across the world is worse
- Music is a saviour on bus journeys
- Never pass up the opportunity to go to a playground
- Pre drinks are a neccessity, and when done they must be done properly - with a Facebook group and bouncer
- Always remember the eggs when baking a cake
- Never take good hair days for granted
- An awkward morning is better than a boring night (thanks for this one Mangee!)
- Stay away from morning people
- Always pack the night before, you won't want to in the morning
- Mini golf is a great stress reliever
- You can never go wrong with a meal on some grass
- Make spontaneous decisions, they make the best memories
- Don't underestimate how cold New Zealand is
- Dont bother trying to have your hair down for clubbing in Oz, you will always put it up half way through the night anyway
- Don't queue for tap water at a club
- I will never work or live on a boat. Ever.
- Walks are the best time to get to know people
- Memories are worth the money
- Losing your voice sucks. A lot.
- Don't forget to take vitamins when you're travelling
- Prepare to never want to stop travelling
- The weather greatly affects your opinion on places (see Brisbane blog for further details)
- Always ask questions
- 5am starts are sometimes worth it - dolphins tend to be a neccessary part of this
- Never FaceTime people from home when you're homesick
- Find people who make travelling a little bit easier and stick with them
- Not having a gap year would've been a huge mistake
- You can get through most situations, just be brave and be strong - it's really not the end of the wolrd
- Again, don't lose your passport
- If you can throw yourself out of a plane, you can do most things
- Making money to go travelling, meet new people and experience new places is the best way to live life
- Make friends from all over the world - if only to always have someone who is awake to talk to
- Checking in to hostels is far too stressful
- Coookie time is the answer to life
- Bin bag fancy dress can get very creative
- No one actually cares what you're wearing/what you look like
- New Zealand is one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen
- Australia is huge
- There are some seriously cool jobs in the world
- Travel sickness tablets and bands are my saviours on early morning buses
- Morning walks actually aren't that bad - especially when they include seals
- Having a plug socket between two is rare, having a plug socket each is almost unheard of
- It's slightly worrying how close you can get to people you've only known a few weeks
- Everyone hates Auckland
- Backpackers love walks -mainly because they are free
- Suitcases would've been a lot easier than backpacks
- I hate backpacks
- Some people are just good eggs
- Having clean clothes is far more satisfying than it should be
- Trying to travel New Zealand without the Kiwi Experience bus would be a big mistake
- Starting your Kiwi Experience in Christchurch is a big mistake
- Travelling back up the north island is very very boring
- Speed dating on a bus leads to 2 things: 1) new friends 2) travel sickness
- Sometimes all you need is a good cup of tea
- Humidity is not my friend
- Winnie's is where the best and worst things in life happen - be careful
- Kiwi marmite sucks
- Peanut butter sandwiches are your best friend whilst travelling
- Pies aren't only made in the North West of England
- Americans and Canadians are a solid bunch of people
- Stealing someone's egg is a crime worse than murder
- Jealousy of others' travelling plans is dangerous and will make you question your own plans countless times

Mum This is a fantastic list - when you feel it is finished you need to print it off and hang it in your room!! Immensely proud of what you have achieved and your perseverance when times got tough. Hope it doesn't mean you no longer want any fussing over you when you get back though xxx Well done!!
