Hi everyone,
Well I've been up on the coast at Scarborough for over a week now, staying in a friend's lovely flat in the middle of town.
Literally 10m across the road to M&S.
The weather is dodgy, not especially warm even when sunny.
There are lots of tourists about. It is sort of an old fashioned sea side resort with oodles of Victorian hotels and guesthouses lining the Esplanades, and amusement arcades galore.
There's 2 nice beaches.
There is a coastal walk that passes thru here, I've walked both ways. It's fairly uneventful walking, not dramatic like in Cornwall.
I'm doing ok without the heavy pack to carry. My knee has settled and my foot is almost better.
Yesterday I set out to ride 21 miles to Whitby on a cycle path along a previous railway track. Thought it would be easy enough but I struggled ++.
I had sore thighs, knees, elbows, butt and other bits I didn't know I had, so stopped at Robin Hood's Bay-15 miles as I knew I'd have trouble getting back.
Oh I was shattered by the time I got home.
So need to practise more before the cycling tour in 2 weeks!
I had to pull off the path for 2 trainers on bikes excercising a pack of hounds, about 20 of them, similar to Beagles but bigger. ? For fox hunts.
2 days before when walking I saw 3 deer!!
Lots of small rabbits everywhere.
Today it was supposed to be sunny and warm, wasn't that warm! I took a bus trip 50 km west into the countryside to look about.
It took 2 hrs as we nicked off the main rd down to every minute village.
It was a double decker bus, going down single lane roads. Hilarious.
There's going to be a horse fair next week and I saw 2 lots of gypsies with wagons and caravans camping on large verges at intersections, with horses tethered to ropes. Apparently they are arriving for this fair.
Not very nice comments about them overheard.
It was lovely farmland today, lots of horses, some cattle and sheep.
Lots of horses being ridden too.
The town I went to had a Castle ruin and a market on. It had a very historic church too, who's local Baron was an attendee at the signing of the Magna Carta.
I am hoping to get the train next week past Sheffield to Chatsworth House, one of the 'best ' stately houses in the UK.
And I have to do 2 more bits of the local walk. And go to the local Castle!
So lots still to do before I leave to meet Chelsea in Paris in 2 weeks.
She passed her 'Board' exams in Radiology, found out today, so will now start looking for 4 yr training programmes to apply for.
Michael is in NZ for the funeral of my ex-father in law who made it into his 90's! He was visiting my Mother too.
Ok that's it for now.
