The Dragon's Travels
Hello everyone.
I'm at the coast ready to start my 8 weeks 1,041 kms walk tomorrow.
Just to show you a photo of the official start. A lovely statue of hands with a map.
It's been another sunny warmish day, though windy at the beach.
It took 4 hrs via 2 trains, and a meandering bus to get here. It's very busy being a long weekend plus a week of school holidays.
Somehow I lost my beloved thermos flask today ( it's been everywhere with me for 10 yrs) so I had to race around and buy another. I'd hoped for a lovely flouro pink or purple one but no, it was black or silver.
I'm staying in the weirdest accommodation. It's actually a nursing home, that must let out rooms when there's a vacancy. They had no record of my booking, the boss is away, luckily there was a spare room, not ready of course so the nurse and carer sent me off for an hour while they got the room ready. It's not quite a hospital room, but call buttons everywhere. And rails in the bathroom.
I've asked for an earlier breakfast so hopefully gone before the residents arrive.
My pack is ridiculously heavy sadly. Nothing extra either. Literally 2 sets of clothes and rain gear. And sandals, toilet bag, 1st aid bag, guide book, electronics and chargers. Bit of food.
And knee splint which I'm sure I'll need soon.
So tomorrow I'm off.
Carol.
