Hi, back again,
I am well into the 2nd trip now, travelling thru Albania from Montenegro to Greece.
Trust me there is not much to see or do here! More fortifications and mediaval towns sure, but the place is dusty and dirty, lousy roads, few tourist sights or activities to do.
Not ready for tourists yet!!!
The food is cheap and ok. The capital Tirana is a horrible concrete ex communist city full of old Mercedes imported from Germany when they are to old to get roadworthies there. They have no idea how to drive.
The museum there was surprisingly good. As there was so little to see we got a taxi to the old capital 1 hr away, and saw a Castle and 2 more museums. Good bazaar full of old phones and radios!!!
One of our group got attacked and her necklace ripped off as we returned to the hotel . Netta and I are more upset and gittery than her I think.
Yesterday we moved to this town out in the country, another castle with great views.
No guide who could explain it to us !!
We bought some jam from a lady who ran out from her kitchen with it.
Today as nothing to do again we hired the hotel waiter to take us on a bush walk to a water fall. I had intended to swim but didn't when told the water was 7oC !!!
The group ate goat from a spit after, I had the usual Greek salad.
1 week later.
Well Albania didn't prove much!!
Plus there was a heat wave making it unpleasant to get around.
We saw a decent monastery which was very old but covered in graffiti and yet another local spring. 10 oC this time !!
The coast opposite Corfu was nice with a fabulous pre BC ruin - Greek and Roman. Needs developing of course.
Then we went to Corfu Is which is part of Greece and fabulous. Pretty ordinary beaches but so good after Albania.
Then a long bus trip to Athens past some big bush fires.
I did a quick run through of the museum before flying out to London.
It's up there with London and Cairo , possibly better.
It was a rough flight and I was sick, still feel yuck 24 hrs later.
Am now in Cambridge , then going to Oxford then fly out again Friday to Geneva to start 2 week walk around Mt Blanc.

deb hopkins You must be getting sick of rough flights. Back and forth across the country. Funny I did this in trains, back and forth on the night train in order to save on accommodation, OMG we were so wrong. We missed so many things. Silly and Young! We got attacked in Paris, Roma and Greece. Mostly by gypsies. I am glad it wasn't you getting robbed. Keep safe Debz
