Hi to all, think I lost my previous part of this.
No I haven't !
We are 4 days out from Burgos, more wheat fields but a bit more interesting as we don't have as high expectations now! We have been hearing cuckoos, not a pretty bird but sounds good.
We walked along a canal yesterday, that was good.
We have been able to start earlier the last couple of days when it is quite cool and we can walk much faster before it gets hot.
And it is getting hot now.
We had 2 days of showers but the road stayed ok.1 night had a storm but again ok inAM.
We are still seeing a few of our regular people but mainly a new lot of people.
Lots have interesting reasons to do the walk- not just because they can!
We are basically half way distance wise, tho every guide book says something different.
My long standing blisters gave up whinging today after only a whimper yesterday. BUT now the other foot has 2 -Dam!
I need resupplying urgently via Courtney who leaves next week to start her holiday and join me soon.
Everyone here has aches and pains too but laugh about it.
There are very few Aussies,Poms or USA on the walk, no. Kiwis few South Africans. Lots of Danish, Dutch, Germans and of course French and s
Spanish people. Just as many males as females.
The route thru villages, towns etc often do not go near the shops so it is hard go get supplies despite how the net said this is Western Europe and everything is here!!! They lied.
And then the shops don' t open until 10 am and shut again 1 or 2 pm until 5, so if you walk thru then you miss out.
I now routinely eat 2 day old bread for breakfast and lunch. We can usually get a banana and orange, but let me tell you a 300g orange is heavy to carry.
Except in big towns we can get a special dinner at good price that has been really good. I usually have salad for first course, chicken or veal chops for main ( no Veges with it) then ice-cream. That is the only decent food we have.
Today we had a hotelier who told us we could' t get up until 7am but of course we took no notice - he was not happy! Funny really. He needs to get out and walk - would probably then have everyone up at 5am !
10/5
Back again after a tedious day of 30+ kms thru - yes wheat fields, but the exciting bit was that the Govt sponsored kms of the path way and there were Poplar trees planted along the way and we walked mainly in shade.
But to offset that thrill when we dragged our carcases into the pilgrims hostel ( after finding out the private one was full) we had cold showers!!
Tomorrow it is to far to walk into the city of Leon so we have decided to save 3 hrs of walking and get the bus the last 12 kms thru the industrial area.
There is alot to see including Spain's greatestGothic church.
Tmw! We walked for 20 kms then got the bus earlier than planned as it HOT and not sure whether the bus would stop where we had planned - it did!
So then found a nice twin room place, then walked for kms to the place where our bags had been dropped.
Margaret has regular foot care and we hunted for a place and found a beauty training school - and gasp , disbelief I had a manicure, pedicure( 1 St time ever) and leg and back massage! Lovely.
Tomorrow we are having our second rest day looking the 800-1000 yr old sites!
All is well, more blisters, bought new socks and dressings for them!
Scenery mY get more interesting now.
The photo is of wild poppies.
As a treat tmw instead of stale bread we are having yoghurt and strawberries for lunch - great excitement.
Bye all , thanks for emails and texts.
Carol

deb hopkins Oh Carol, I don't know how you can live on that food, I would be falling over starving. I need sweets too. A Sugar fix! Really sad about the blisters, it surprised me that someone who walks like you is getting blisters, is it because it is so hot? Take care Love Deb

Netta You have done well. Now that you are through the half way mark I think you will make it. What you need is a bag of chocolate M and Ms for energy. Perhaps Courtney will bring you some.
