Well hello.
Great news. We passed the 100 km marker today- forgot to get a photo with the iPod camera so you will see the 97 km marker instead!
The last few days have been so much more interesting with lots of paddocks, stone walls, wild flowers, streams, some cattle tho not alot. They are mainly in big stone barns mooing away, tho must be let out as we have spent 3 days walking in cow poop.
Yesterday we got to the 111 km place which is where lots of people start their walk and still qualify for the certificate of completion!!! So it is now getting busier with " tourists". Bit of a snobby thing re us REAL walkers!
My feet at last are free of any active blisters! Just a few scabby bits and delicate skin but great now.
We have 3 and a bit days to go.
This area is known as the wettest region so hoping desperately it stays fine.
Sun pm. 38 kms to go!!!
So we are nearly at the end, what a relief. Today didn't really have anything exciting to see, just walking thru oodles of little villages, some woods including eucalyptus trees, a few streams. We had several rests and came in at 2.15 pm. We have gone upmarket and are in a pension , twin room with ensuite. Believe me after 40-100 bedded hostels this is luxury! And we have it again tmw night. Now that there are so many " imposters" it is a bit of a concern about making sure we have a bed at the town the bags have been delivered to , as we can't just walk to the next town ! And from here the next place is 19 kms!
My food intake has improved from the start as we have wised up to how it all works. We still buy the day before for the next day as it's impossible to find a supermarket open when you walk thru a town before lunchtime. So I am still eating bread for beeline and lunch but often have 1-2 yoghurts as well ( not cold of course) and there is some nice fruit available - cherries particulary but nectarines and peaches too, and the compulsory bananas.
The dinner each night has continued to be yummy and good value. It is at 7 pm each night as they know we are all in bed by 8.30 pm !!! And gone by 6.30am! Easy for the hostel people!
A hostel full of knackered people all on a mission in and out the door ASAP.
You can't stay a 2 nd night even if you want to unless you have a Dr's letter.
We lost our German mates about 4 days ago, but hope to find them in Santiago. We keep seeing others along the way tho, including last night some we haven't seen for 3 weeks.
So next contact should be when it is all over( well this part anyway as I am going to do the extra 3 days of 90 kms out to the coast , which was the known end of the world until Christopher Columbus proved otherwise)
Carol.
