Helloo again...
Its 6:42pm and i have just had a shower. Another beautiful day in Nong Kai. Today we spent the day in TESCO. For all the Aussies TESCO is an enormous store which sells everything!! Rach, Katie and I went shopping for our cheese and wine night, however it turned into a day playing around TESCO as for some odd reason you cannot buy alcohol inbetween 2 and 5 pm... so we ate up a storm in starbucks and claimed the couches for a few hours. Its amazing how time flys with good company and good coffee :)
So to pick up from last blog.. Thursday was an awesome day! It started off with a quick thai culture lesson then off to the buddhist sculpture park. we walked around the circle of life and viewed the sluts around buddah. We even met big Bud and were told his story of why he is so fat. Very cool.
Next stop, the indo china markets to search for goods. I might be back to get some cute tee's. For lunch I ordered a spicy/sour squid salad. Emphasis on the spicy. I must mention the cute kids perchasing their lunch with their pocket money.
After lunch we used our thai to by food at the local market. We had a list of ingredients in Thai that we had to translate and barter with the locals to get the cheaest price. did i mention it was was ALL IN THAI!!! Im feeling much less a farang (westerer) now i can get by using their language. weird things in those markets: fresh chicken feet, pigs heads and already scaled LIVE fish. A vegetarians heaven. We came home with the supplies and Pei, Kai and Aun helped us cook authentic time for the big feast! We cooked Papaya salad which consisted of only 3 chillies as apposed to 15 which is what the locals prefer! Other dishes included tom yum puk, egg fried rice, gang massaman curry. Thai words to remember: tua fuk yeow = long green beans. Prik = chilli
The big feast (aka welcoming dinner) was amazing and as we started to finish up we were blessed witht the presence of the sexy lady boys. They had come to give us a thai dancing lesson and sing karoke. One of the lady boys gave us a bit too much of a show (see video) hahaha. They love our little ashley much to his disgust. We were given bracelets by each of the staff and other guests as part of the ceremony It is te thai way of blessing new commers and welcoming us o their community as well as good luck. After the festivities we headed to warm up bar and drank beer and shared laughs. As we discussed our lesson plans for the following day we asked the group 'what do you like doing in your spare time?' in which toto replied 'i like to help myself...' minds in the gutter we thought it was hillarious. Kuan explained to ashley that it meant Jerk off... We were scarred for life. The night ended at bar-nana to celebrate our last night with On! Great band, craazy thai tap thing, and popcorn. clever thais. popcorn at a bar makes you drink more. GREAT NIGHT! Legal = Drink driving + 6 people in the car + driving on the wrong side of the road.
FRIDAY (yesterday). A little hung over we managed to get through our thai speaking class and further develop our lesson plans for the day ahead. Kai cooked us lunch and off to school we went. Rik and I were first up to teach our lesson on SPARE TIME - Way laa Wong. Kids were beautiful, full of energy and eager to learn. It went great. They understood our games and the were telling in english what they liked to do in their spare time. Cant wait for the next month. We were both on such a big high afterwoods we forgot how tired we were. Lucky because it was exam time.. We both passed and recieved our certificate for thai culture and speaking. RIkki went to TESCO and brought Leo beer, all in preperation forn the big night ahead. shavon rik and i began the beer fest on our matrice and it grew and grew as the beer got less and less. Gaya bar waas the place to be at. It is a floating bar on the mekong with a lived band with an Aussie singer. WOW.. big night.. Dancing with crazy hamburg ladies, long man, tribute, tamborine ties, beer down shav's top, intense toilet convo's, riki asleep on the comfy couch whilst snoring, 3 muskateers, marina's crazy binge, remember always fix up your bill. Tuk tuk take me home. haha
5am this morning we awoke to pei's knock.. Shav had a taxi to catch and her alarm "some how" turned off. oops. Knickers and all she ran outside thinking she had everything.. Haha she had no idea she didn't have pants on! wow. A bit to big a night huh!
