Firstly, the pic in no way symbolises Penang, there isnt much choice!
Penang is a really built up which tookus by complete suprise, we thought its was going to be another Koh Lanta style small island with few people. On arriving at about 8 at night we swiftly found some accomodation in the China town area thanks to a german guy we had travelled with, then went out for some food with him and Rachel & Cerys who were alsoin our mini van. We went to india town for some food and had the best chicken tika massaler iveever had!
The next day we tookit easy, but checked out thenight life with the same people as the night before ending up in a local night club.
We decided to have a cultural day yesterday, firstly buying an indian curry from a street stall for brunch, then going to a mosque, to watch muslims pray, although we got more then we bargained for as we were taken to a building outside the mosque by 4 muslims and were preached the faith of Islam. It was interesting, i now know a lot more about islam than i did before and we got a free water out of it and some literature on Islam. We thought it would go on forever and they would make it diffiult for us to leave but they didnt, it only took about 15 mins and thenfree to go. Afterwards we visited the largest temples in south east asia and went up Penang hill in a cable car around sun set to see the view over the city. Finally we went for a Chinese and watched the rugby in a pub.
Topday we go overnight to the Perhentian islands off the east coast which is suipposed to have some spectacular beaches but doesnt have an ATM - should be fun!
See you soon!!
