I got up at around 8.45am and had one last shower in the Ruffles' amazing shower, and packed my stuff. Linda took us into Newcastle to get the 10.25am Greyhound, but it didn't arrive until gone midday, so we had to wait for an hour and 45 minutes in the heat! It transpired that it had got a flat tyre earlier on in the journey.
The journey to Sydney was only a couple of hours, and we drove in over the Harbour Bridge and saw our first view of the Sydney Opera House which was exciting. We got off the bus and made our way to our Nomads hostel. Unlike the Nomads in Byron, this one is gross. It hasn't been cleaned for about a decade and we haven't got a window in our prison cell of a room.
We went to Cole's to buy some food, and it started to rain, so we spent a couple of hours in the hostel just reading, watching films and using the computers. At about 5pm Anna and Jon came to our room to meet us, and we had a nice walk to Darling Harbour, where we had two cocktails in a nice bar/restaurant. The cocktails were about $17 but it was happy hour so we got them half price which was great. I had a strawberry mojito and a lychee caprioska. The mojito was my favourite!
After our cocktails, Jon and Anna left to meet Jon's sister, and we headed back to the hostel, stopping on the way to get some goon. We freshened up, had a cheese sandwich and started drinking in the common area where we met a really sweet 29 year old Japanese girl called Akari, who must have only been about 4.5 feet tall. We ended up at a club called sidebar, with Akari, where we bumped into our friends Caroline and Fran who were in our dorm in Byron Bay. We had a really good dance but it was somewhat tainted by the drunken guys who leering over us and trying to kiss us/feel us up. Gross. There was also a guy with an Ernie puppet (from Sesame Street), I'm not sure why but it was funny. The others left at 2am when the club shut, and I was just finishing a game of pool and was going to catch up with them, but as I was walking home I ended up chatting to a bunch of locals and going to an 'after party' at one of their houses. After a couple of hours of chatting to people I wanted to leave but had to admit I didn't know the way back to my hostel. Luckily the guy who's party it was knew and offered to walk me back, which was nice of him. It was only 10 minutes away. A fun but unexpected night!
