We got up and ready after a little lie in and left the hostel at around 10.30am to go to the zoo. On the way to the ferry port Hannah bought a new camera as hers has broken. It's a pretty good Canon Ixus. Seeing all of the good cameras reminded me how rubbish my £60 Fujifilm one is, so if I ever get a job I'm going to save up for a decent camera.
At the ferry terminal we bought our joint zoo and ferry ticket, and got the 12pm boat over to Taronga Zoo.
To get to the entrance we got a cable car up the hill which gave us spectacular views of Sydney Harbour. We saw loads of animals, obviously, including giraffes, kangaroos, penguins, zebras etc. You get to just stroll around the enclosure with the emus and kangaroos which is cool. We also paid extra to meet a koala bear and have our picture taken with him. The sun came out at that point and shined for the rest of the day which was so nice. Every now and then you would be looking at the animals and realise that behind them in the distance you could see the opera house and bridge - it is such a nice setting for a zoo.
We watched a seal show as well - the seals are so well trained and really cute.
At 5.15pm we got a ferry from Taronga to the fairground, Luna Park. We were hoping to go on a ride, assuming they would cost no more than $5 each, but a single ride was $10!! That is absolutely ridiculous. We wandered around for a bit anyway because the atmosphere was nice but I wish we could have gone on a ride.
Afterwards we jumped on a ferry to Darling Harbour and walked back to the hostel for dinner. I managed to set some rice on fire so I went for a jacket potato in the end.
We decided to go out but our goon had been stolen from the fridge! Some people are so rude - obviously the hostel kitchens operate on trust so it's pretty mean of people to take advantage of it and steal things. Apparently other people had had their food and beer stolen as well.
Luckily we met a nice girl called Laine and two Dutch guys in our room and bought a new goon with them for $2.50 each. We ended up having a really good but quite drunken evening in Sidebar!
I think we went to bed at about 5am - fun though!
