We got up at around 10.30am today (except early riser Vicky) and went to meet Jon and Anna at the Queen Victoria Building (QVB). The QVB is an old Victorian shopping centre with nice, but pricey shops in. It's such a lovely building though. We wandered around window shopping for a bit, before heading towards The Rocks (near the Harbour). On the way we stopped at another Victorian arcade, which reminded me of the arcades on either side of Main Street USA in Disney!
Once we reached The Rocks we ate at a nice little cafe called the Bakers Oven. I had a chicken, asparagus and cheese open melt, and a pot of tea. The Rocks is all lovely Victorian buildings, it is the oldest part of Sydney. I didn't realise it existed, but it is so lovely. At the end of The Rocks is the famous Sydney Harbour Bridge. We walked underneath it and saw some people doing the bridge climb. I'd love to do it but it is nearly $200!
From the Harbour Bridge we could see the Opera House, which was amazing to see in real life. We took lots of pictures before heading to the Museum of Contemporary Art. Or 'art' in some cases. A CD recording of a man sharpening his pencil, writing the numbers 1-9, brushing his teeth or something and other mundane sounds, I would not go as far as calling 'art'. The same goes for a chopping board with half a loaf of bread on it alongside a motorised piece of fur which looks like it is breathing. I do really like looking at art but some modern stuff really takes the piss a bit. There was an Annie Liebovitz exhibition on which I would have loved to have seen but it was $15.
After the MCA we went back to the Bakers Oven where we had a slice of cake and a drink. I had a hot chocolate and banana cake. Yummy. It was gone 5pm by that point so we started to head back to our grotty hostel and said goodbye to Jon and Anna.
We just spent the evening napping and reading really, conserving our energy for a long day at the zoo and the Luna Park tomorrow. Excited!
