Today was admin day, the day I allocated to get organized and get everything out of the way before I head off to Russia. Dare to dream K.
I started off by going to Victoria, as I needed a HSBC bank to deposit ninety quid into for my Mongolian Visa and this is where the nearest one to the embassy supposedly was. I looked for it for about an hour, I eventually found it and deposited the money. I then got back on the tube to Kensington High Street and went in search of the Mongolian Embassy, which I also, eventually found.
Once there I was told that the department of foreign affairs and trade in Ulaanbaatar had only sent a letter requesting a six month visa, not twelve which is what I need. I made a quick judgment call and decided to go ahead and get the six month visa anyway. This is no longer my problem, it's the company's problem.
I left my passport at the embassy and went off to find the Home Office to renew my UK passport, back at Victoria. I can hear you asking, why didn't you do that when you were at the bank? The answer would be because the Mongolian Embassy visa section is only open until 12:30pm, so I didn't have time, which was annoying. Compounding my annoyance, I spotted a HSBC, not one hundred meters from the Embassy. Google is not infallible it would seem.
I hunted around at Victoria for about another half an hour trying to find the Home Office, (I'm really hating on Victoria at the moment) I eventually found it and was told I needed an appointment, so I made one after having to find some free WiFi to get the postcode and of my Aunty's house, you can't have a passport without a postcode apparently. Red Tape central.
Almost outside the home office, was a post office, so I went in there to pick up a box and some packing tape so I could lighten my load a bit, by sending some of my stuff home. After picking that up I went back to Borough and packed up the box, which was much larger than I expected, once I had it assembled. After packing up the box, I raced off back to Kensington High Street to collect my passport from the Mongolian Embassy, which is only open for collections (ridiculously) between 2-2:30pm.
After collecting my passport I was a free woman for the rest of the day! The feeling was one of complete and utter euphoria. I decided to extend that euphoria by heading off to Camden Town, the alternative capital of London. While on the tube I discovered that I had lost my ticket! This could have meant a ninety quid fine, but I just told the guards at Camden Town station and they just said, No problem miss, and let me through. That would NEVER happen in Sydney. The power crazy transit police would have slapped me with a $200 fine for sure! Once out of the station, I had a smile from ear to ear looking in all the shops selling things I could never get back in Australia. Especially the New Rock boots shop. I ate in a pub there, I had my favourite, steak and ale pie, which as usual was unreal. I love English food.
When I could no longer stand from walking around, I got the tube back to Borough and turned in for the night, preparing from tomorrows coming fiasco.

Mum I hate getting visas, when we traveled overland, I had to get visas for 3 Aussie passports and 1 British (me). At that time visas were needed for nearly everywhere. Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan and obtaining a Kyber Pass visa into India was a nightmare. That was my job out of the 4 of us in preparation before we left England. Steak and Ale Pie looks nice - yum!
