This morning I woke up to find someone else asleep in the spare bed in my room…Leena who I will be training to replace me, rather odd way to meet someone waking up and they are in your room.
We go downstairs to breakfast and then meet up with the group to give the orientation which lasts for about two hours and finishes in Red Square. I get Leena to take a picture of us all in Red Square to celebrate making it all the way from Beijing.
We then let the group go off for free time and I take Leena to a café for a chat to see if she has any questions. She has lots, I would be worried if she didn't. I also give Leena some places to find and some metro stations to scout out, before I go back to the hotel to chill out before I have to give another pre-departure meeting for the passengers joining for the Russian section.
At 6pm I head down stairs with Leena, who has returned from her scouting and the new passengers are nowhere to be found, because as usual the hotel has not put up or given out the pre departure information. I am hoping they will be around and see the Tucan Travel sign on the table on the big orange clip borad, eventually one finds us and there is another Chinese couple who haven't turned up. I can see a Chinese couple wandering around looking lost, but resolve that its not them, because the sign I have is so obvious. I give the meeting to the one person who has turned up and then have to give it again because the Chinese couple I've spotted are my missing passengers.
Its always wonderful when you have to start with people by apologising to them, I hate how this hotel can't provide us with this small service. I make a plan to do another orientation with the new comers tomorrow and its actually a good opportunity to for me to see how Leena copes with the orientation.
I spend the rest of the evening in the hotel reception chatting to people and being chatted up by a random Egyptian from Sharm el Shiekh, who looks mortified that I know where this is and have been there. He's said, Sharm el Sheikh with such a mysterious voice and knows I know what its really like. I big tourist mecca full of Russians. I giggle at this as I go up in the lift and go off to bed.
