This morning Leena and I have to give another orientation walk, which is painful with only two people, who aren't really interested in what we are saying, only in taking photos. I must admit I sped it up a little and was relieved when we finally arrived in Red Square. After it was over Leena and I had a coffee in the GUM centre, mainly so I could escape the two clients who asked many, many ridiculous questions and who were heading in the same direction as I would have been.
After coffee, I give Leena some more things to have a look and I head down to the metro and off to Gorky Park, somewhere I have always wanted to visit, but have never had the time or have been too tired on previous trips to Moscow.
It is quite a fair way off from where I am now, I have to get on the brown line to Kulture Park and then I have to walk across the main bridge over the Moscova river, it is about thirty degrees and I have on jeans and my Siberian boots, I am sweating and getting sun burnt.
I arrive at the mammoth soviet arch leading into the park and take a few photos before entering. I have not realised how big this place is going to be and there is so much in it! Theres a lake to go boating on, big bean bags to sit and relax on, and old space shuttle turned into a café, a fairground an everywhere there are flowers, there is even an area where you can play table tennis.
I walked around the park for a few hours before settling under some cherry blossoms in a spot that meant when there was a slight breeze nearby sprinklers would send a fine mist over me and the petals from the pink blossoms would fall all over me, it was the most tranquil place until some rogue gardener moved said sprinkler so it was much closer and I was getting soaked. I actually lay there for a few more seconds thinking, he'll realise his mistake and move it in a minute, but he didn't. I looked up and he was looking at me with a cheeky grin that said, I wonder how long this stupid girl is going to lay there getting soaked.
I decided to go back to the hotel, as it was far too hot to stay out any longer, dressed as I was. Once at the hotel I decided to go to the flashy looking pizza place nearby. I walked in and immediately regretted my decision, two wine glasses at each place setting, about four different knives and forks, and a bowl and plate on top of each other. These are not the hallmarks of a cheap restaurant. I thought I'll just have a drink or something and then leave, but when I was presented with a menu, I realised this was actually pretty reasonable. Can't judge a book by its cover, or a restaurant by its silverware it would seem.
After dinner, I hung out in the general vicinity people watching for a bit, before heading back to the room.
