Last Kremlin tour with Helen this morning, but first Andy and I decided to get up early to check out the famous Ismailovo markets. We walked over behind the old Gamma Delta hotel, but they were still pretty much setting up. We decided to have a coffee in the café there, well Andy decided to have a coffee and just ordered me one. I swear I've drunk more coffee on this trip that I have in my entire life. At least I know the Russian word for milk so I didn't have to drink it black.
We went back to the hotel and I went back to my room and used the internet for a while before going down to meet Helen and the group at 11:15 for the Kremlin tour. I met Helen and she had bought me an end of season present, a lovely picture of the Novodevichy Conventy which she had written a message on the back. It was a lovely gift and I told her she shouldn't have. We left for the Kremlin and Helen and I herded the group onto a very crowded Moscow metro.
We got off at Arbatskaya and I gave a brief talk about what to expect in the next couple of days and then headed off to for my usual walk through Red Square. This time I had actually planned to finally go into St Basils. It was like nothing I could have expected and like nothing I had ever seen. It was almost like a fun house with religious icons everywhere. I kept waiting for it to open up, but it just didn't, at one point a male choir started singing in one of the small rooms, it really made the place come to life.
After St Basil's I had to do I dry run back to Yaroslavky station, to check out the process for boarding the Trans-Mongolian Railway which I have to get the group onto at midnight tomorrow night. The process was pretty much how I expected it but, no harm in making sure. I then went back to the hotel for the rest of the afternoon to catch up on some paper work.
At about 7pm I went down to reception to see if anyone was doing anything and the whole group ended up in my favourite restaurant. I had sushi and lasagna, a rather odd combo but still really good. After dinner, Paul, Colin, Andy, Louise Danielle and I decided to go see Red Square all lit up at night. I of course had seen this quite a few times now, but just had to see it one last time. I also managed to see the Bolshoi theatre all lit up, and then navigate back to Ploshchad Revolution via the red line. After allowing Andy to give it a go. Which we all though was funny, expect the two girls who I think were tired and just wanted to get back to the hotel. I took over as it was late and they seemed to be getting irritated.
