More bumpy roads as we left Konzo and headed into the Omo Valley today. We drove for about five hours before we reached the first tribe. It was a pretty awful experience, all they wanted was money. They surrounded us asking for 2 birr per photo we took of them. We didn't last long there, one girl yelled in Sarah's face and another girl slapped Rachel. Daster asked Rachel to point out the girl that slapped her, but she wouldn't because the rest of the tribe were going to beat her. The people we met on the road when we got a flat tyre were much nicer and again absolutely fascinated with me, with both my red hair and tattoo on the back of my neck. When the children saw my tattoo, the wrenched my head down and ripped my hair away from the back of my neck and started poking and prodding it, which made everyone else laugh.
We left there and headed off to our campsite, which to our surprise had showers and "hotel" style toilets. I'm not sure which hotel, but it certainly wasn't the Hilton! After our long day I had a brief nap up a tree (no really, I had a nap on the branch of a tree like a leopard), it was lovely, it was just the right temperature and there was a cool breeze blowing. After I got down from the tree I went to be in my tent I slept better than I had the whole trip. I love my new tent.
