We traveled south from Denang to Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) on Tuesday and have been pleasantly surprised, it's just as busy as Hanoi if not busier but the town is far more modern and the streets much wider.
We had a bit of a shock when we first arrived because as we were driving into the city a storm struck with torrential rain that flooded many of the streets. The locals were riding their scooters through water up to their knees. Many of the city roads were closed and there were accidents all over the place. When we arrived at the hotel, which is on a little back street we hade to wade with bags on backs through the flood waters! It only took an hour for the waters to recede and the locals didn't seem phased by it at all!
We had a walk round the city yesterday and visited the Reunification Palace (a 1960's ugly building), the War Museum and Notre Dame Cathedral.
We are taking a tour out to the tunnels at Cu Chi today, an underground village with 200km of tunnels used by the Vietnamese during the war.
Tomorrow we are heading over the border into Cambodia, only a six hour bus ride!
