A six hour bus journey took us from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap, it rained as we arrived again! Siem Reap is a small town mostly developed to serve the tourists that visit the nearby Angkor Wat temples. They even have a street full of bars and restaurants called "Pub Street" Our guesthouse is tucked away off the main street and we have made good use of the swimming pool.
On Tuesday we visited the temples, very impressive in size and architecture. We hired a tuk tuk for the day and he drove us from one temple to the next. We started with Angkor Wat and made our way round, through, up and down to several others including one that has been overgrown by huge trees that just seem to have grown through the temple. We had a great day but it was hot and humid!
My birthday was spent by the pool in the bright sunshine until a storm broke! "It never rains on my Birthday!" We headed out to Pub Street then to a restaurant called "Dead Fish", a cool place that resembles a converted barn with loads of mezzanine levels, some connected by ladders. You sit virtually on the floor and your food and drink is winched up to you from the floor. The best bit despite the food being great was feeding the Crocodiles! They are in the flooded basement and have been for years.
Tomorrow we are taking the bus back to Phnom Penh (another six hours, but it only costs $8 each) for the night and flying from there to Singapore on Saturday.
