Great Australian West North Expedition (GAWNE)
Day 2. Today we drove across the vast Hay Plain to Balranald, noticing many wild emus and thousands of huge wrapped cotton bales. Onto pretty Mildura and then to beautiful Murray River port town of Renmark for refuelling and lunch. We are now in the Sunraysia Riverland region of South Australia with its vast vineyards and citrus orchards. Stopped for the night in a lovely grassy van park just outside the village of Barmera on Lake Bonney. In 1964 Sir Donald Campbell attempted the world water speed record at 216mph on this lake. Dinner of pasta with home made tomato sauce and olives. Cool today only 12-14 degrees and overcast, drove 460km.
