Day 16. Nice drive long Highway 1 towards Kunnunurra. On the way our we visited the Gregory Boab Tree inscribed by the Gregory Expedition in 1855 and up to the lookout to view the mighty Victoria River of over 800km. A tribute to the Nacharoos who defended northern Australia in WW2 as our northern commandos. Fished the Victoria River at Policemans Point but no luck. tried further downstream under the Bradshaw Bridge and caught 2 black bream on lures. A truckie from a parked roadtrain came down to the river and lost a big barramundi and his favourite lure. Ha, ha! Drove 200km west and crossed the border into Western Australia, reaching 33 degrees today. Had to surrender our fruit and veg at the WA Quarantine Station, so we had a huge salad lunch just before. Down the road to the Argyle Dam, beautiful red gorge country, stopping for coffees and diesel at the Argyle Dam Park, huge Lake Argyle stretching into the distance. Tried fishing downstream in the Ord River but no luck. Back on the road we visited the old Argyle Homestead once owned by the Durack dynasty. Then down the dirt Duncan Road to the Zebra Mine campsite for the night. Met by the lovely Hannah from Northampton at the gate who guided us to our campsite. Dinner of pasta, tuna, olives and sundried tomatoes and bed early as we are going fishing tomorrow morning.
