Cairo museum, the protest and hookers in the lebanese restaurant
We woke up on tuesday morning and headed to the musuem, which was a short but dangerous walk over several busy roads. We passed a protest at an embassy, there was riot police everywhere, but it seemed peaceful enough, everyone was singing and later on i found out it was a protest against an extension to an existing law. There was a subway system and some random bloke was guiding us through them, we got to a very dodgy tunnel and decided to ditch the guy and head up to the light. We then had to walk down the road to get to the musuem.
At the musuem we were not allowed to take our cameras in but didnt notice until after we got in. Therefore at the security point we got sent back to log them in. We think it was free but the guy said what ever you want, so it was free he was just after some cash. I through him £2 egp that i had in change about 25p. We then entered the musuem, we spent 5 hours here looking through the place it was £60 egp to get in and we didnt realise that we had to pay more to see the mummies, we didnt bother as there was mummies upstairs throughout the floor. As on the top floor was tutenkahmuns stuff, from his gold head pice to all his jewelry etc.. It was very good. The best bit i think after that which i bet people miss is the mummified animals, they had crocodiles and fish that were huge well worth a look.
After the musuem we went shopping for socks as i had to throw mine out because i left them to dry on the window sil in milan and all the oil seeped into them , they stunk! We got befriended by a guy and i managed to buy 3 pairs of moody sport socks for £36 egp about £3.70 bargain. After that though this guy wanted to give us his card, next minute we were in his brothers shop , were he was trying to sell us aftershave, erm.... Backpackers, not to mention the fact copey had brought the whole boots collection from home. We quickly escaped then headed back to the hotel. Were we spent most of the night booking a 5* hotel in sharm el sheikh, we then managed to get a lift to sharm from a guys friend for £850 egp about £100 or so this was ok as it was £70 a flight we agreed and thought we had the rest of the week sorted, how wrong we were.
We were then very hungry so the guy at the hotel drew us a map for a lebanese restaurant nearby, we didnt find it easily but after asking some guards they pointed the way. We both opted for steak as the mixed grill wasnt on, we got brought out cheese ,bread and water. Some americans over the way ordered a hooker, we were intrigued our ears pricked up, turns out the hooker is a pipe for smoking. They sat there puffing along all night. We headed back to the hotel after discovering we had an additional charge of £60 egp for the water, charges and tips etc.. Copey had a text off his mum about a cheap website seemed we had overpaid for the hotel so decided to look at it tomorrow to see what we could do.
