Paul and Laura on Tour
Friday 28th July - GLOW WORMS!! doesn't sound that exciting does it?! but it's such a popular place to come for the caving and the glow worms(apparently should be glow maggots but that doesn't seem to sell them as well for some reason?!?)
So we booked on a trip to go to see the glow worm caves and found we were the only ones booked on! the advantages of being in winter! unfortunately we were told our guide, Norm, was a little deaf and very old! Think it was just the tour guide kidding cos he was brilliant!
We went down of into the caves, helmets, lamps and all and then into a little boat. Then we had to turn our lights off! You don't know dark until you've been in a cave like that! But not for long as the boat moved along slowly these little lights came into view, thousands of them on the ceiling and walls. It was like having the night sky a few feet above your head, really beautiful.
Anyway after a cup of tea out of Norms flask he'd brought with us we went onto a dry cave which was equally as cool, with a huge catherdral (the big open part of the cave) and stalegtites and stalegmites(no idea if thats how you spell them but you know what I mean!)
Norm really made the trip, he knew everything about well everything, giving us tips on where to go everywhere! When we'd finished asking him everything we could think of got back in the van and moved on to matamata, a couple of hours drive.
I'm realising that I'm not really telling you how we are and just what we've done! We're both ok, pretty good really, Laura's missing home sometimes and me, i'm missing vimto!! The camper is not as cold at night now we've bought a portable heater on the way to matamata and i'm nearly used to emptying the waste water and toilet when i have to!! Nice!
