We arrived in Mission Beach after our 8 hour coach journey at 5am! We had to walk for 30 minutes with our heavy backpacks to the hostel in the dark so we had to get our torches out!!! It was a boring day of laundry, food shopping and sorting stuff out on the internet. We decided to treat ourselves to a can of rice pudding!!! We had an early night.
Today was white water rafting. We woke up early and RnR picked us up at 7.50am. We went to Rafters, a bar/hostel/office to get our safety briefing and then it took about 20 minutes from there to get to the Tully River. We put our life jackets and helmets on and got into our raft called "Edna". We were in a group of 6, 2 others from the UK and the other 2 from Japan! It was so much fun - we did get scared when we had to get down in the middle of the raft. We stopped off for a bbq lunch along the river. We "swam" down some rapids, the first time it was lovely, abit like a lazy river and the second time it was alot scarier! There were moments were we couldn't breathe and to top it off we were getting filmed!!!! We went under a waterfall, glad we had helmets on!!! At the end of the day we got taken back to Rafters to view the dvd and see the photos of the days events. We didn't buy any as most of them were just a splash over the raft!
Yesterday we left Mission Beach at 11am and headed to Cairns. We arrived at 1pm and again had a lovely walk to our hostel in the heat! Our hostel here is lovely with free internet access! We have a three bed dorm and last night we had it to ourselves. We even have a tv in our room and enjoyed watching Neighbours! We walked into the city centre to have a look round the shops, we even came across a big shopping centre! Rachael has a bad cold and is really suffering so we had an early night!
