Our Global Gallivants
On Saturday we went to a state park of a different nature. "Skyway Fishing Pier State Park is a Florida State Park located on the north and south sides of the mouth of Tampa Bay. When the new Sunshine Skyway Bridge was built on I-275 (US 19) after one part of the old bridge collapsed due to a ship collision, the approaches to the old bridge were turned into the longest fishing pier in the world. The bridge is lit at night, and the park is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. (From Wikipedia) it was a chilly day with a screaming cold wind, so we didn't go on the pier, just to some of the fishing spots below it. The pier is quite high above the water and wouldn't have been a fun walk. We did see some people get in the cold water to take a parasail lesson. They did have the swimming skins on. We went to train with Sensei Darryl on Sunday morning. He chose the Florida Botanical Gardens to practise. I was pretty happy about that because I have been trying to drag Dave there. I didn't really see much of the garden, though, because we trained and then left to gave some duck for lunch. This time the bakery was open and the egg tarts were just coming out of the oven. They weren't the best egg tarts, but hot gets them extra points. Some of the other items were exceptionally good, though, like the sponge cake and coconut tarts. We had noticed a big mall next to the freeway on our way to the restaurant, so went there afterwards. They have one of the ************'s sporting goods stores that we've ever been in. We did get a chance to try on the new full face snorkelling mask that Dave had seen on the Internet. That is a great invention. It covers your whole face and the snorkel inserts into the top of the mask. You don't have to put the snorkel in your mouth, just breath normally. There's a valve at the bottom to expel exhaled air. Supposedly it does not fog up. Dave's birthday is coming soon..... Today was a good great beach day, so we went to Clearwater beach. There were some people that came and sat near us on the beach. They decided it would be a good idea to feed the seagulls. The only problem was that they kept throwing the food over by my chair so all this commotion was by me. I finally had to tell them to keep it in front of their own chairs and they decided that wouldn't be as much fun, so the quit doing it. Went to karate tonight. Leg drills in class tonight.
