After a mad dash to get to the airport (all the buses were full), we finally made it in time for our flight to Trelew.
Glad to be leaving Uruguay, it's inflated prices & rude people & happy to be heading to Patagonia for some Welsh surroundings and cooler temperatures. Ben didn't really anticipate how cold it was going to be and turned up in shorts & flip flops.
Puerto Madryn, where we were staying was a 45 min drive away but got there in 30 thanks to Colin, our driver! Both shed a few kilos on the way!
Patagonia is famous for it's wildlife & mountains so first trip we booked on to was a day tour to Peninsula Valdes. Got to see lots & lots of Magellan Penguins, Elephant Seals, Sea Lions & baby Sea Lions.
Unfortunately we weren't in the 3% of people who see the Orca each year.
SATURDAY 25TH FEB - BEN'S BIRTHDAY !!
Went to Internet cafe in the morning, Reet left me there under the pretense that she needed to go back to the hostel for a little while to fetch something. I was under strict instructions to stay there and not move and to await her return. An hour later I leftt he internet cafe fuming as the computers hadn't been working. I met Reet on her way to meet me, out of breath and drenched from the continuous downpour. I immediately had a go at her as I'd been sat in the internet place for so long not being able to leave. Turns out when I got back she'd been preparing my birthday surprises - WOW I felt like a nob at this point.
That night we had a wood fired BBQ with some new friends also from Scotland. We ate, drank and were merry. Really good day finished off with a birthday cheesecake with sparklers. The BBQ was probably the best steak we had in Argentina.
The final day spent in Puerto Madryn was snorkelling with sealions. We headed out in a boat to Punta Tombo reserve. Wearing our 7mm wetsuits we headed into the colony and sat bobbing around for abt 40mins getting really close to them as they swam around us playing. Great fun.
