So it's bye bye to the beaches and hello to the big city.
We arrived in Melbourne after quite a stressful drive, there were a few raised voices and a red traffic light run, but we arrived safe.
We are staying in a hotel while here which is quite a treat for us to have our own space and our own bathroom!!!!!
Day One:
On our first day in Melbourne we had booked a tour of the MCG or as it is called here the 'G'. It's a really impressive place and too Kyle's surprise I actually enjoyed it. On the tour we got to go out on the pitch, up to the view top of the stadium, the practice pitches and the members area which was very very posh.
Following our tour we went and met Derek (Kyle's friend from home) where we went and had drinks on the sun deck before we headed back to the 'G' for a T20 game.
The T20 match was between the Melbourne stars and the Hobart Hurricanes. We were supporting the Stars who unfortunately lost but it was a good atmosphere and Kyle was happy as he got to see Kevin Pietersen play (he was out for one tho).
Day 2
Today we went to the Melbourne Gaol, something I have been looking forward to. The tour started off in the Old Watch Tower with like a role play where we were arrested and put through processing finally getting locked up (if you were wondering what we were arrested for me being violent and Kyle being disorderly in public). After the lock up we were then allowed to take some photos and go into the main gaol.
The gaol was actually quite creepy as we learnt about the horrible crimes men and women had done in Melbourne. The most famous resident had been Ned Kelly who was interned here after his capture and hung here. We got to see his death mask and guns. We both really enjoyed the gaol it was a good few hours well spent.
Following this we headed to the Eureka Skydeck, which is the highest building in the southern hemisphere(300m it felt a lot higher though as helicopters were zooming below us). The views from here were amazing and we could see all the way out to the sea.
We needed some refreshments after landing back to Earth so we headed to the Lindt Cafe and had the most amazing melt in the mouth chocolate pudding we were in heaven.
Day 3
Today we have been to the Carlton United Brewery for some educational tasting. The brewery produces lots of beers including Carlton, Victoria Bitter, Fosters and Peroni to name a few. It's also the only place in Oz to have Fosters on tap.
It was a good tour I didn't realise how much went into brewing and how most of it is done with machines. I have also found a beer a like called Fat Yak.
After the tour we headed for a long tram journey to St. Kilda which is a beachfront town it was nice to get away from the city for a little while.
Overall Melbourne has been a lot of fun and we both agree it's one of our favourite places so far as there is so much to do for everyone.
