We arrived in Shannon Airport Saturday morning at 9am. Then we took a bus to Killarney and spent the next four hours looking for a hostel or bed and breakfast. So we pretty much walked through all of Killarney. It turns out that Ireland uses primarily bed and breakfasts which they call B&Bs. So we ended up taking a train to Cork and find lodging there. We spent another two hours looking for a place and finally found a B&B. With the lodging behind us, we walked the city. We pretty much saw the entire city Saturday night. Cork was surprising more European-esque than I expected. It has a very nice downtown area, a bar about every two steps, and lots of huge cathedrals. So we basically saw all of Killarney and Cork in one day.
Sunday morning we had a huge Irish breakfast. Bangers (sausages), rashers (ham), eggs, toast, tomatoes, something I don't know, and coffee. Huge breakfast and it was great. We almost went to Schull but decided to take a bus to Blarney Castle and it was better than I expected. The castle seemed really big from inside and was a lot higher and had more stories than it looks. We kissed the Blarney Stone, but it was not nearly the highlight of the tour, it's pretty much something you do because you're supposed to. The grounds surrounding the castle are also pretty interesting. When we got back to Cork, we toured Cork University which had a lot of really nice buildings and walked through the city again. I've done as much walking in the past two days as I have the last month. Definitely happy I bought new walking shoes before I came over.
