Day 55, 28 August 2012, Arrival in Cappadocia - Of all the bus lines to avoid in Cappadocia, Goreme Buses is it. The driver and steward spoke no English and whenever there was a toilet stop it was announced in Turkish how long we would be there. Let's just say we stayed pretty near the bus. But honestly 11 hours travel for two people for $60 odd - what do you expect. We visited the information bureau when the bus pulled in and checked the location of the hotel we'd booked on-line. We were happy to find it was just a short stroll over the road, round the corner, past the mosque and turn left. The Tabiat Cave Pension (pictured) is a legendary place to stay in Goreme - small, family run and happy to let us check in at 9.30 am. Crawled into bed and stayed there for quite a while! Eventually ventured out for lunch including a glass of local vino and had a look around town. I honestly feel like I've landed in the middle of an Enid Blyton children's book - like the Faraway Tree! The fairy chimneys are everywhere in Goreme - we can see two from the window of our room. They are funny and uplifting and magical in equal parts - like drinking french champagne and having the bubbles tickle your nose. More napping was had in the afternoon, and a walk around night time Goreme rewarded us with a view of the nearly full moon over the fairy chimneys. Indeed a magical place to stay a few days. Can't wait to see it from the air tomorrow - bring on ballooning!
