Rich & Alli's Travels
After stopping in at Napa Valley and taking a tour at a vineyard, we drove onto Lake Tahoe. We were going to do the whole "Sideways" thing, but Napa is too touristy so we think the film was set further north in the more remote Californian wine region. We plan to come back for that though.
Lake Tahoe had magnificent scenery and we got some good snaps of the Lake. This really seemed like a place for water sports and many families seem to bring their kids here for summer breaks, so we didn't hang about for too long.
We drove straight onto Yosemite and found it difficult to find anywhere to stay. We ended up staying in a camp hut which basically was a log cabin with a bed in it, thats all. Was ok though but really cold surprising when temperatures in the day were around 100 degrees. It was cheap though so we tucked into a couple of beers and a litre of local wine. Warmed us up a bit.
The next morning was an early start to Yosemite National Park. The park has some great sights. The largest water falls in North America! i know surprising we couldn't believe it after visiting the roaring falls at Niagra. Yosemite seemed like an anorexic dribble in comparison. The largest monolith in the world is also within the park (El Capitain) pictured. Half dome another monolith, called so due to erosion from a collison with a glacier. All very unique scenery so well worth a visit !!
To cap off our visit we stopped in and saw the famous Sequoia trees. These are the largest in volume, so we thought we might as well as Redwoods were the tallest and now we have seen the fattest too!
Next stop death valley ! Hope we don't run out of petrol in there !
