Rich & Alli's Travels
So we're on Vancouver Island now and have been for the last couple of days. Forgot to mention last time that we had just left by far the most spectacular scenery we've seen yet, which was at Banff National Park in Alberta, Canada. After leaving Canmore nearby and embarking on another 600 mile drive, we stopped off at Lake Louise in Banff National Park, which is named after Queen Victoria's fourth daughter. The scenery is stunning (which you'll see soon from the pictures when we can add them), as it's in the Canadian Rockies and has a huge glacier at the far end of a beautiful, emerald lake. We did a few miles of trekking round the lake, but the Grizzly risk was quite high around there and as we'd left our pepper spray (and legendary brown trousers) we cut it a bit short.
So after leaving mainland Vancouver (boo, hiss) we got the ferry to Nanaimo, which is a small harbour town north of Victoria. Stayed in a really smelly motel, but at least saved a few quid. Had a sign saying 'No soliciting' on the window.....nice. After a night (and a quick fish and chips lunch with a cuppa the next day) we left and drove to Victoria. Victoria's nice and I assume is the part of Vancouver everyone is referring to when they say Vancouver's nice. We just got back from whale watching, which had a 98% of sightings and of course we saw nothing but a few seals! Anyway, we on standby so may go back for another look later.
Tomorrow we head to Seattle for a grungy few days so will keep you all posted.
Apologies for the delay but most of USA seems to have wi-fi only which is useless without a laptop. Anyway we are back now.
So we last left you where we went on a 3 hour whale trip in Victoria Vancouver Island and saw nothing only a few pesky seals, but we went again later the same day and thankfully the boat was able to locate the whales. They were magnificent were the big Orca (Killer) whales and they were playing around the water, spy hopping, which is when they lift there body out of the water vertically to have a look around. Was well worth the aching muscles afterwards as the water was very rough and in one day we spent 6 hours being battered around in this thing that resembeled a suped up dingy.
