Wednesday
Today was Bad Luck Day. It was one of those days where everything decided to go wrong. First off, it was absolutely freezing. Our activity was going to explore getting a tattoo so we went up to Vic Market Tattoos. Unfortunately, the shop was shut when we got there. So we had to kill some time. Due to it being Bad Luck Day, the market wasn't even open so we couldn't kill time there. But we wandered down to Melbourne Central and had a look round the shops and drank some free tea. We then headed back up to the tattoo shop when it said it would be open again, and it still wasn't. Plus there was a queue of people waiting outside, and then it started to rain. At this point, we decided to give up on today and head back to the hostel (via a trip to the toilet which as we got there got taped up for cleaning - bad luck day).
In news, they are filming a movie at the hostel today, which made us have to make breakfast late and meant there were people everywhere all day. Still, it was quite interesting to see. It is for the Melbourne Film Festival and the whole film is being made in 72 hours which is all quite impressive. A news crew even came down and interviewed Pat. To be honest, its easy to waste time here at the hostel as there are a lot of interesting characters here so always someone to chat to.
Today we have started the New Atkins diet, so will mainly be eating meat from now on. Good times. We will be doing this for a few weeks as winter plus Australia plus bad leg inactivity has made us fat. Well a few weeks is the intention, we shall have to see how it goes!
Thursday
Nik still wishes to explore getting a tattoo done, so we trekked up to Smith St in Collingwood to check out a place there, as legend tattoo artist Bugsy is currently working there. As it transpired, Nik couldn't get an appointment with Bugsy, and it was a bit overpriced all things considered, but we got to see the man himself. And it gave us a chance to wander round the area, which was like a grimier version of Brunswick St, very Camden in fact. Got some good street art shots too. And saw more bakeries than you could shake a stick at - damn our high protein diet!
Afterwards, we went to the Ian Potter centre (part of the National Gallery Victoria) in Fed Square to see some art. We saw some good modern pieces. There was also a good exhibition of collage that we were most impressed by. Afterwards we went for a coffee and met a nice lady with a nice dog who we looked after while she fetched it a drink. It had a leopard print fur jacket on.
It turned out to be absolutely freezing today, so we decided to head back and enjoy the warm instead of continuing our wandering about.
