Wine Tour! I think this weekend may just have been Hannah's dad's ideal - footy and a wine tour! Today, we went to the Yarra Valley to visit four wineries. The first one (Yering Station) was a nice place, but the wine wasn't great. However, the guy doing the tasting was totally hungover and ridiculous and missed the spitoon. And we still managed to drink our way through the list, all at 11am - good times! The next one we went to, Rochford, was a lovely posh set-up, but all the wines were grim, and the tasting was done by a small boy. They did however use roses on their vines which is interesting, red ones at the end of the reds, whites for whites, pink for rose and yellow for chardonnay. However, we had lunch there and it was delicious, plus we tasted some bonus fudge afterwards which was very good indeed.
After lunch, we went to the best winery of the day which was Yering Farm, a small boutique winery where we had the tasting in a hut with the wine grower himself and tasted some excellent vino - especially the late picked Chardonnay and one of the Merlot. Then our final one was the Chandon vineyard, the Aussie arm of Moet. It was very slick, and we saw tanks and stuff and learned the history of sparkling wine and then got to do some tastings (to say we learned, obv this means that Hannah learned while sommelier Nik bit his tongue most of the day). The sparkling red, and the shiraz were the nicest. However, we didn't buy anything all day as Nik is still dependent on the drugs so there is no point as he can't drink when he takes them. Still it was a good day out, and ideal as the weather today was grim - rain, rain, rain - had our pack-a-mac out! Also met and chatted to some nice people, and had an excellent guide, Paul, who was hilarious and kept singing songs down the microphone. He also told us about how he used to deliberately leave late people behind to teach the other people on the tours a lesson - amazing.,
Also got some nice pictures, and saw a double rainbow (search You Tube for double rainbow to make this extra funny!). Sadly didn't take the handbag so couldn't rob all the beautiful tasting glasses.
For dinner, we lucked out as we found the reduced section in the supermarket - oh our glamorous life! Finished the wine theme of the day by cranking up the heating and watching Sideways.
