Sawatdee from Thailand!
I have made it to thailand in once piece, woohoo!! Got my flight at midday from KL and it only took 2 hours but then it took my another 1 1/2 hours to get through immigration. I thought the US was scary but here they don't say anything to you and you have to show them your passport, immigration form, boarding card from your arriving flight and an onward flight. I was really worried that I had counted the 30 days that you are allowed here wrongly and that they wouldn't let me in!
Then I got a txi from the airport to Khao San road which is the major road where all the backpackers stay. I was quite scared because I hadn't booked any accommodation and needed to find some. The road was packed with people, market stalls and pumping music which was quite intimidating so I just went into the first place I saw which was called the khao san road 'palace'. They didnt have any single rooms so I said I would take a double which cost about 7pound but when I saw it I nearly died. It was really drirty with a toilet and shower hose next to it so you sit on the toilet to shower! I bought the key back and said I didnt want it and went on the hunt again.
By this point I was a tomato because it is so hot here and my bag isn't getting any lighter! Then I spotted a sign for mom's guesthouse and thought that had to be good! They gave me a single room for 250 baht which is about 3pound and is much better than the last place. It only has a ceiling fan but the room doesn't seem too hot. It also has a shared bathroom but it all seems fine. Only problem is that there is no electric socket so tomorrow will have to be crappy hair!!
It took me about an hour to work out how to lock the bloody door but after much struggling I managed to do it. You lock it from the inside and then close it, who would have thought eh!?
They have 2 cute little white dogs here exactly the same as the ones from Palmar hotel in Corfu. They are really sweet and just sprawl themselves across the floor because they are too hot.
I just had a quick walk around when I got here and grabbed a baguette for lunch then went back to my room to sort my stuff out. I have lots of stuff which I need to send home tomorrow and that will help to sort my bag out a bit. There is lots of nice stuff on the stalls here so I need to make sure I don't buy too much! Everyone is having their hair braided on the street and it looks gross, I don't know what they are thinking!!
Bangkok doesn't seem as bad as I thought from first impressions, but it might just be that this road is ok. The people don't stare at you and the only people who have apprached me are the tuk tuk drivers but if you say no they just walk away which is good. I think there will be more bother at the main tourist bits tomorrow but I am prepared.
I'm going to the palace tomorrow and to see the reclining buddah. Then I night try a thai massage but I think they will kill me because apparantly its pretty rough! I also need to try and find the train station to book an overnight train to the north for sunday evening.
One of my legs feels really numb so I'm hoping I haven't been biten by something weird! I have biotes all over my legs, they seem to be getting grosser and there are tons of mosquitos here so I will be covered!
Anyway, its 7 hours ahead here so its 8:50pm and I am going out to have a look at this street at night time. Might get something to eat, I can see myself just eating thai green curry everyday for a month!
Hope everybody is good. There is nowhere to attach my camera on these computers so I will try and upload some pictures soon. Missing everybody muchly xxxxx
