Hi everyone!
So I am finally here and it is exactly as I imagine it to be, totally insane! When I got on the plane in Kuala Lumpur I was the only western pesopn and everyone seemed pretty amazed with me, one dad made his daughter get the new videocamera out of the box to stand in front of me and film me reading a book!!
The flight was pretty rubbish because the films were all Indian and the food was Indian too even though it as Malaysian airlines who normally have brilliant food. Only the men got offered alcoholic drinks so I made sure to order one even though I din't want one, just to show them that I won't be going along with that!
When we started landing I could see tons of lights so I thought maybe it won't be as run down as I imagined but I was very wrong. The airport was practically half built and then went I got through the other side the ATM was broken and I had no money so luckily I always carry US dollars on me now in case of motorbike emergenies etc so I could exchange that! I went off with this taxi man and we were driving for about 5 mins but when he realised that I am on a tour and wouldn't need him to book anything for me he just took me back to the airport and sent me off to the proper taxi queue so that pissed me off.
India is 5 and a hlf hours difference from England which I didn't even think was possible. I thought the minutes had to be the same everywhere in the world so that really confused me! So anyway, I eventually managed to get a taxi and I thought I was going to die on the roads. The drivers here are absolutely made, most of the cars don't have any mirrors so you just beep as you are going around someone. I'm sure we almost crashed about 50 times. The roads are covered in rubbish here and there are just random cows walking down the streets. I have never seen anywhere so busy before.
As soon as I arrived I went to sleep, then this morning they said I had to change to a new hotel but when I went to reception to complain there was a woman from my tour there so I asked to share her room. I didn't want to go out exploring on my own so I invited her along and we paid a taxi driver 10 pounds to take us around to all the major sights which was temples, mosques and temples! It is monsoon season here so it is really hot but 3 times today there was absolutely huge rain storms and we just had to sit in the taxi and wait for it to end. It was definitely worth paying the money for a proper car rather than a tuk tuk because we would have been soaked.
The woman I am hanging around with seems a bit 'special'. She comes out with really random stuff like that Africans put spells on Thai women to make them fall in love with them and that she knows some jews and they are actually ok. Everytime she talks about someone she will tell me where they are from and say 'oh but actually they were lovely!" Earlier she said 'I agree with you, all ozzies are racists' and and I was just like 'when the hell did I say that!!?' She is going to get me in trouble! I'm stuck in a room with her tonight and then for the whole of tomorrow but after that I hope I will be sharing with a normal person. If the tour guide puts us together I will crack soon!! I have to try and put up with her though because she said she was bullied by a French woman on her last tour!!
The taxi driver and tour guide were loving it when it rained today because the weather was much cooler. After looking at a temple I got back into the car and they were both drinking tea and saying how much they love it. A man was walking around the carpark with a teapot selling it to people. When we stopped at some traffic lights loads of beggers run to the car when they see white people and its so horrible because its loads of kids. They were all selling English magazines too and dancing around for us!!
I have to carry a book around with me here to write down all the random stuff that I see because every corner we go arouns there is something mad going on. I like Delhi because it is so different to everywhere I have been. I don't find it as scary as I thought either so I wouldn't mind having a walk around on my own tomorrow. I had to get 200 pounds out of the bank for the tour leader tomorrow and the atm was counting the money for about 5 mins because it had to give me such a huge wad of cash. I feel really rich now!
I had a chicken briyani (?) for lunch which was ok, I'm a bit scared to try food from random restuarants so am being picky about what I eat until the tour starts and the tour guide will take us to good restuarants. I just had egg on toast for dinner at the hotel and the waiter thought I was totally insane and kept telling me that it was for breakfast and was I sure!!
That is all my gossip for now, just off to spend some time with my roomie!! Meeting the group tomorrow afternoon so I hope they are more normal!
Only 23 days until I'm home, madness!! xx
