Today we left New Orleans after another yummy breakfast of waffles! We drove about 1.5 hours in order to go on a swamp tour, we had a slight detour as we saw an alligator on the side of the road!
The swamp tour was great fun with Cajun Jack the captain, I think he took a slight liking to the girls, kissed me on the forehead a few tours, and had a tendency to thump the guys on the back eveytime he told a joke, no one was going to say anything as we were surrounded by alligator infested water! The boat trip was pritty cool, we went down the Mississippi River and entered a swamp. They had Cyprus trees in this swamp which were thousands of years old. The roots of these trees would grow straight down into the ground for metres and then turn around and come straight back up, emerging out of the water, these roots would then grow into more trees, pritty cool! We managed to see a few alligators but unfortunately they didn't perform any cool tricks for us!
This afternoon we drove to St Charles state park. Well this was an experience to say the least! The campsite was in the middle of no-where with no other campers around (this should have been a warning!). We set up camp after our tour guide telling us that there were alligators in the swamp next to us. Whilst eating dinner we got eaten alive by mosquitos so the decision was made to get out of there and go to the cinema (in our pyjamas)! When we returned later we found that our tents had been raided by raccoons!! They had cleverly un-zipped our tents and had gone through our bags, they had even gone through my friends underwear!! I made it quite clear that I would not be sleeping with the raccoons so I slept in the van instead! Whoose I know! After a very hot and restless nights sleep we happily left the campsite heading onto Texas!
