Today was a great day. We had breakfast and then headed to Huntington Beach where all the surfers were! We went to watch the surfers so I could muster up some courage and try and learn how to surf! We booked a lesson with old man Dave and headed down into the surf! Dave made us both lay on our boards on the sand first and practice springing up which I was awful at! Clearly I am not like a springing rabbit at all, Dan however looked like a pro! Dave obviously realised I was a lost cause and was not going to be able to jump up so sent us out into the water anyway. It took Dan about 3 waves and he was standing up and catching the waves in. I, however, had a little more trouble! I kept getting onto my knees and the riding the wave in on my knees! I think Dave was getting annoyed so I begin to try really hard! I eventually got up and rode a wave in! Turned around and Dave was giving me thumbs up, okay signs, the lot! Not sure he was as excited as he made out but I certainly was excited! I soon as I stood up on the board I screamed! We had a quick stop for lunch and then we went back out in the waves! I think it would have been better if I had not gone back in....as soon as I got in I flipped my board up, but wasn't going to give up so set back out into the sea to get knocked back down by another surfer, after momentarily (felt like years for me) getting stuck under my board I popped back up to be greeted by my fellow surfer apologising! Well it kind of went downhill from here so after a few more blows and one more surf of a wave I went back in! Dan did really well!
This evening we stayed in Long beach, we went out for dinner to a lovely restaurant for Dan's pre birthday meal (as I won't be at home for it). The restaurant was lovely and so was the food and to my delight the waiter poured out wine out every time our glass was almost empty! We certainly weren't living like backpackers tonight! When we got back to the hotel I soon realised why it wasn't very expensive....there was a club across the road with a really loud base which thumped through our thin bedroom walls for the majority of the night! Luckily for Dan he can sleep through anything!
