We left the kids with the grandparents again to enjoy a 3 hour Cobbold Gorge tour. After a 4wd bus ride, it was followed by an hour bushwalk accompanied by a knowledgeable guide. This morning we drove out to Cobbld Gorge Via Einasleigh. We stopped at Copperfield Gorge which was really nice. It is the end of the Undara lava flow. We saw a green tree snake....looking a bit out of place amongst all the rocks. Cobbold Gorge was our next camp and the road out was mostly corrugated with some good patches. Zach made his "bedrock" this morning with his stick pillow. We left the kids with the grandparents while we did the Undara Lava Tube tour and Kalkani Crater rim walk. Undara means "long way" and the lava tubes were really interesting. It erupted 190 000 years ago and is the longest lava flow from a single volcano in the world at 160km long. Beside the caravan park is the creek which the hot springs bubble up into. Upstream it was cold, then there is a warm section followed by scalding hot water (well it felt that hot anyway but our skin came out unburnt). It is shallow and has a sandy bottom so we stayed here for a bit before going back to the pools to avoid all the hot and cold spots. We had a few quick stops on today's journey, the first being Windy Hill Wind Farm. It was quite foggy so we didn't have a great view. It is QLD's first wind farm and has 20 turbines. Next we stopped at Ravenshoe Visitor Information Centre where they keep informative displays. The kids loved using the torches to find the night animals. Ravenshoe is also QLD's highest town.
