Carisa Goes Abroad
I woke up this morning to a beautiful Irish day. I really enjoyed the 10 hours of sleep that I had!! The weather outside was a bit rainy, but it doesn't seem to last long. I took a 3.5 mile run up towards the Gap of Dunloe but I didn't make it all the way. I saw lots of sheep and some ruins along the way. It is very different than the routes I am used to running. After cleaning up and some breakfast, we started out on our first day of exploring Ireland.
Gap of Dunloe is a rift between the mountains that was carved by glaciers. The scenery was beautiful but the single lane, two way road that winds through it was scary. I can see why they want you to see it on foot or by horse.
We ate lunch in Killarney at Danny Mann's Pub. I had some great Irish Stew with beef marinated in Guinness, yum!
The Muckross House is a beautiful house that sits on one of the lakes in the Killarney area. The gardens around the house are amazing, with huge trees and flowering bushes.
After the Muckross House, we continued through the Killarney National Forest to the Torc Waterfall. It is a little bit of a climb up to the waterfall, but it is worth it. After the waterfall, I climbed up Torc Mountain a little more and got a great view of the valley.
Ladies View is a little further down from Torc Waterfall in the forest, and it has a great view of the three lakes in the valley. There is also a gift shop and a place for a beer here. This is somewhat useful because the road through the Killarney National Forest is another scary one.
We stopped off at Kenmare for some shopping and dinner. This is a cute town and I found some good deals on t-shirts and jewelry in one of the shops.
So far on my trip, I have seen sheep every where... even hanging out on rocks on the mountains. It is funny to see them spray painted.
