The bus arrived in Arequipa at 5am. I did not sleep well, and my cold came back in full force. I was going to my hostel...to sleep! My hostel was not the original one that I choose (I was right next to the one I wanted though). The hostel was owned by a cute couple. I ended up sleeping until 12pm. I felt a little better to explore the city a bit. Every city in Peru has a Plaza des Armas, so I figured that would be the best place to go first. I sat on the balcony of a nice restaurant, drinking soup and blowing my nose...
I had planned to go to the Convent of Santa Catalina (a huge convent dedicated to very famous sisters through time). It was beautiful. At the convent, I saw Natalia! She was in a tour group, we exchanged emails, because she really wanted to see me whan I came to Sao Paulo. After the convent, I went to a museum dedicated to an Ice Princess named Juanita. Juanita and several other mummies were found on a mountain near Arequipa, fully conserved. It was a very interesting story, talking about how the Incas would sacrifice children for their gods...
I was told that I had to try Rocotto Rellena in Arequipa, so I got in a taxi and wondered around the city for the best place! The taxi drove me to this cute restaurant (expensive, but it was my last chance to try it). I got to the restaurant, and then, suddenly realized that I lost my cell phone! I was devistated! Dinner was not that fun from then on, and besides, I had trouble tasting it since my nose was still blocked...
I got back to the hostel, and went to bed early. I had to get up the next morning to go to Colca Canyon (I was trekking). It was probably not the best idea, due to the fact that I had a bad cold, but I couldn't waste time resting (I later realized that this was the worst decision I ever made...)
