I got today really early because I had to go meet Martin at his house to referee. It was raining outside (which sucks for refereeing, but it did not matter that much to me). I had to meet him at 8:15am. When I got to his house, he told me that because it was raining, all of the games were cancelled for the weekend. Who knew that as soon as there is a little rain, Chileans don't play soccer!
I was really dissapointed as I walked back to the hostel in the rain. When I got back, I ended up watching soccer on TV all morning. At the hostel, we have a TV with satellite. I decided to go for a walk around 12pm to go for lunch and view the city in the rain. Everything was closed today, because it was a holiday in Chile. I had lunch at Subway (in Chile!). Subway here is a lot healthier than the Subway at home (the grilled chicken is not a patty, it is actually real chicken).
When I got back, I attempted to contact Laura (a girl I met in Cusco), but the phone was not working properly. When I decided to send her a message on the computer, the power went off. I found out later that the power went off in the whole neighbourhood. So, to recap, I was in another country, to visit and tour, but there was no power in my hostel or the whole neighbourhood, and it was a holiday so everything was closed.
There was a bunch of us that grouped up in the living room, and just talked about politics and science (I was talking with a political science major and an engeneer). I then ended up talking with Zahra and Stewart again until around 10pm. We were all waiting until the power came on again, but in never did. I ended up having supper at a gas station (one of the only places that had power). I know it sounds really sad, but I guess I had to make the best out of a bad situation.
After supper, I just went to bed (even though I really wanted to go out), however, because I could not contact anyone, and everyone else went to bed, I had no choice. I told myself that tomorrow, there was no way that I was going to pass up again on going out! I was on vacation!
