We left Cairns with a relocation camper van that we got a great deal on to take it 2400km through the outback to Alice Springs right in the middle of the country. We did it with a couple of Australian girls we were working with in the rainforest. It was a 6 berth camper so kinda had loads of room!! We travelled down then coast to Townsville and then went inland from there as it was pretty much the only sealed road we could travel on!! the weather seemed to get much hotter the further inland we went aswel! We travelled past hundreds of dead kangaroos and a few dead cows on the road!! We stopped off at a few random outback towns where prices were excessive for everything. we just camped over at rest stops on the roads for the evenings as we were usually in the middle of nowhere! We stopped of at a few points of interest on the way inclu Devils Marbles which was kinda like Stone Hendge but about a million times better and hotter, and slept our last night on the tropic of capricorn right next to the sign!! We travelled to Alice Springs the next morning which is when we were all set to go on our 3 day Uluru tour!!!
