Waking up with a slight headache after the "Welcome to Sucre" beers the night before, the agenda for the day involved dinosaurs. There is a picturesque (ahem) cement quarry just outside the town. Due to the day's delay in leaving La Paz, our stop in Potosi was to be a flying one. At around 4,000m the city claims to be the highest in the world. It also used to be one of the richest thanks to its silver mines and so, surprise surprise, the centre is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We had decided to extend our stay in La Paz to give us time to visit the pre-Inca site of Tiwanaku. The renovation of this temple site is very much a work in progress, some (poor) reconstruction was done in the 1960s, much more excavation and re-reconstruction is required to really bring the site to life and to uncover its secrets. The need for speed satisfied, Wednesday was time to take in a bit of culture - the museums were open. Or so we thought. Top of our list was a museum giving, amongst other things, a history of La Paz including photographs of its colonial prime. Except it is shut for renovations.
