The picture accompanying this entry is of a road safety zebra. These chaps were all over the city helping locals get from one pavement to the other intact. Love it.
So we had another day to kill in La Paz. Having done all the main attractions (there aren't many!), we were a little stuck. After spending the morning bickering we decided on the old fall back plan of the cinema. We caught a cab out to "Mega Center", a huge entertainment complex to the south of the city.
The southern part of the city is where the wealthy reside and so it was interesting to take in that view. Big contrast to the touristic centre and El Alto. Mega Center is great - cinema, bowling alley, gym, huge food court, huge supermarket (we love a good supermarket whilst overseas!), and some shops. We could have been in Milton Keynes, ha ha. With a limited choice of films in English, we ended up seeing The Killer Inside Me, with Casey Affleck. Disturbing but good.
Subway foot longs in hand for dinner on the move, we headed back to the bus station. Actually they were only 6" but foot long sounds better. The bus was running, praise the Lord. We'd opted for as close to flat bed seats as you can get, very comfortable indeed. Necessary for a 9 hour overnight journey.
Our extended stay in La Paz meant that the city lost a bit of the good feeling we initially got. Although it has its plus points, it is not a place to stick around in for long. You quickly run out of things to do and you begin to see past the sights. "Local flavour" is replaced with poverty. You pick up on the tourist rip offs. And generally want to get the hell out of there!
