I'd made sure I was prepared for this next catamaran by taking some motion sickness tablets beforehand which worked a treat! The waves were still just as choppy but we were both able to catch some shut eye for a couple of hours before we pulled into the pier. It's weird because when we got off the boat, nothing immediately jumped out at us... the sea was a similar colour to that of Koh Tao, but it wasn't clear at all & the waves were really choppy on the shore. Already we could see it was a much bigger island & we got ripped off by a taxi man, who charged us 600baht (£12) to get to the other side. Finally we made it to our cute little yellow beach bungalow, which was literally just a wooden shack with two single beds, with an ensuite at the back and a little balcony at the front. Our next door neighbours all had a different colour so it looked pretty damn cool down in the water!
Later that first night we were led down on our beds, me reading my book & Billy working on his video, when all of a sudden he jumped off the bed so quickly and stripped... I've never seen someone move so fast.. He only had a cockroach down his boxers!!! Hahaha. It was soooo gross, and it's safe to say we were a little freaked out after that incident. This particular place we were staying in did THE best Thai green curry I think I've ever tasted & ended up having it for the next consecutive 3 nights! Mmmmmm!
One of the nights we got chatting to a really friendly Italian man who had not long given up his job and his life in the Dominican Republic to explore the rest of the world.. he showed us loads of his photos he'd taken so far on his travels which were amazing.... I was pretty jealous of the white sands & turquoise waters he'd given up to be sat opposite us too! It was a really interesting couple of hours speaking with him. We took advantage of our front garden the next day and sunbathed until it got unbearably hot & I had to go lie down under the fan for a while. Billy had a pretty hard evening with issues back home, but there was a smile back on his face when a tomato ketchup bottle exploded EVERYWHERE all over me... I looked like something out of a horror movie! Hahaha to be fair it was pretty funny. I sat there with ketchup all over me crying with laughter and bless them, the Thai waitresses had no idea what to do so they just gave us a new bottle of Tommy K!
We'd decided to stick around for longer so we checked out of our cockroach infested (haha) beach bungalow & moved ourselves to a lovely little beach resort a couple of miles down Lamai beach, where we were greeted by the friendliest staff who made us feel right at home. The funniest thing was when we got chatting to the manager of the resort, John, and found out he was actually from Longlevens, Gloucester.... which is where I went to university for 3 years! Small world or what! The weather wasn't so great during our stay - it was overcast and/or raining most of the time, extremely windy and the waves looked pretty treacherous so we stayed well clear & enjoyed a little bit of chill time instead.
We took a wander to the Sunday night market (which John had told us was only a 25 minute walk..he lied haha), and after about 35 the loveliest little woman told us to get on the back of her moped & she'd give us a ride down the road to it. Now I wouldn't dream of doing something like that back home, but the kindness and generosity of the people here was just something else, and this gesture left us feeling very thankful and appreciative of people like that woman. On our last day on this island we decided to hire a motorbike and go explore, taking a ride up to the view point - which wasn't as impressive as Koh Tao if I'm honest! A quick trip to Tesco (yes they actually have them here!!?) and then it was time to be picked up early the next morning for our transfer to the ferry port.
