Well, well, well... what can we say about Bangkok?! It is absolutely mental!! Whilst driving to our hotel from the airport we got to experience some of the Thai lifestyle at it's finest and one thing is for sure... Bangkok has NO Highway Code - motorbikes coming at you from all angles, tuk tuks weaving in and out, and tourists/locals having to risk their lives when crossing the roads, haha! Our hotel was pretty decent and everyone was really friendly and happy to help us, so once we'd checked in we decided to go see what all the hype was about down Khao San Road... complete chaos! Down there, if you want it, you will probably get it, haha, we'll leave that to your imagination! We did find some of the best noodles we've ever tasted (obviously for Billy they weren't quite as good as me though!) all for about a quid. It's safe to say we've been living on them since, and are now pro's with the chopsticks!
On our first full day we had a tour of the city temples - Wat Pho, Wat Traimat (the Golden Buddha) and the Grand Palace. Although the buildings themselves were pretty impressive and very intricately detailed we did think they were slightly tacky and it's not something you'd see back in the UK!! We managed to book our bus journey to Chiang Mai for the following day too, and had our first tuk tuk experience which was so funny I think we were laughing the majority of the way! Billy decided to go cold turkey from smoking as soon we got to the airport, and bless him he did try hard but after 3 days without one he started to be a bloody grumpy sod with me so he has now bought some. Plonker! Having still not caught up with our sleep from the flight we thought we'd take advantage of the hotel swimming pool and chilled there before taking the dreaded 9 hour bus journey to Chiang Mai from Hua Lamphong station. After a very slow start we set off and both of us managed to get some sleep - although it was quite hard when our 'reclining seats' didn't really recline very much at all!! Arriving in Chiang Mai at half 5 in the morning was a pleasant change from the hustle and bustle of such a mad city. We got a tuk tuk to our guesthouse where we crashed and burned for a couple of hours before hitting the pool to try and recuperate for the day. Billy then went on to try and impersonate Tom Daley with his dives but I'm afraid they just weren't quite a 10!!
