Hey guys! Sorry for taking so long to update, Ive had a very busy week! I started off by doing a few days work in a call center, selling mobile phones to existing customers, which was hard going! The work itself was mind numbingly dull, but the rest of the team were really cool, which kind of offset that a bit. Still, spending all day inside, with the sun beaming down outside the window, waiting for a beep in the headset to notify me of another call during which I had to sell something to someone who really did not want the product....
Luckily for me, this slow torture was to only last for two days. As I was only a temporary member of staff I had continued my job hunt and, after an interview, I was rewarded with an offer for a receptionist position within a hostel in the town center. I jumped at the chance, as the pay was about the same, the hours more flexible and the job itself would be far less soul destroying! I start there on Monday, so I will let you know how I get on!
Another interesting bit of news is that my new guitar was a dud! How can an acoustic guitar be a dud a hear you cry, well, it was an electro-acoustic with an inbuilt tuner, and neither the tuner or the pick up for the electro bit worked. So back to the shop I went. They took the guitar and had their techie check it out right away, and he confirmed that I wasn't being silly or had the battery in the wrong way round and that it was indeed in need of a major repair. The shop immediately offered me a refund or s replacement, with me choosing the later. Luckily for me, however, the shop had no more guitars of the same model that I had picked, so they offered me the next one up in the range for no extra cost, and as this one did not come with the inbuilt tuner, they chucked in a hand held one free of charge, meaning that basically they gave me another £30 worth of stuff. Obviously I was delighted with that, promising to return for all my other guitaring needs!
So today was Saturday and I had a free day on my hands, so I decided to be a bit touristy and visit the harbor area for the first time. So off I went, and took in such sights as the Opera House and Harbor Bridge, both of which looked resplendent in the sunshine, there images perfectly mirrored in the water. While I was there I took the time to watch some street shows, namely a Aboriginal band and an Englishman juggling fire, knives and a chainsaw. It was like Covent Garden in London, just with water in the background. I started to make plans for the rest of the day: a jet boat ride around the harbor and then a meal in Sydney Tower, a landmark featuring a revolving restaurant standing taller than the bridge. It was here, however, that I made a shocking discovery. My wallet had been pinched! I know I had it at the Aboriginal band, as I gave them some coinage after the performance, but it seems that I had fallen for the oldest trick in the book, a pickpocket hitting the amused crowd at a street show. Judging by other peoples reactions, they had been hit too. Still, the luck I had been experiencing so far on this trip held; this morning in an attempt to make this a cheap day out I had removed all my cash cards and my credit card from my wallet and left them in the house! So all in all, I lost a total of about $30 (£15) and my provisional drivers licence. It could have been a lot worse. My most immediate problem was how to pay for my train ride home. Again, my luck was in as the call center I was working at earlier in the week worked Saturdays, and so I was enable to borrow some cash from my friends there. It was actually very pleasant to go back to the office, as it was a Saturday things were very relaxed and I spent about an hour chatting to my friends and ex-bosses. I even went on the phones for a bit! It also gave me the chance to swap contact details with the guys, which is brilliant.
I then made my way home, and calling the police in the process who filed a report, which means (if they are anything like the police in Reading) that I will not hear another thing from them. I also notified the DVLA that my drivers license was stolen, and they informed me that it was easy and cheap(ish) to get a replacement. All in all, a good day that could have been a lot worse!! Speak to you all soon!!
