Cuzco - Day 52 - 20/11/2012 (Tuesday)
A nice early start and got a bus to the bus station. Oh the irony. 7 hours later we arrived at Cuzco bus station and to continue the irony we got a bus to the hotel. Some people wanted to go for fast food so we left them to it and went for a walk around the town. We ended up in a market but didn't really buy anything.
Later that evening we had our meeting for the inca trial. We meet our guide and they told us what to expect. It lasted a little to long as the guy went on and on. After the meeting we went to this Aussy place for dinner and then went to some sleazy club and had a bit of a late one. The weirdest thing about the night was this guy would grabbed his chair, took it to the middle of the dance floor and refused to leave the chair. He danced with it for ages and just would not get off it.
Cuzco - Day 53 - 21/11/2012 (Wednesday)
After the late night the previous night it was a bit of a late start to the day. A group of us meet for brunch and went to a very English place called Jacks. They even had full English's so after not having one for months we had to partake. Sarah decided that that wouldn't be enough food and also ordered some pancakes. Our food came and it was a huge plate full. However the pancakes never came but that was fine given the size of the plate. We asked for the bill and just as we did the pancakes arrived. Sarah had to eat them dispute being rather full.
After that our guide Martin suggested we went to the black market. Tis wasn't really a black market but it was all stuff smuggled from Bolivia on the cheap. The idea was to pick up a few bits for the inca trial. However when we got there, there wasn't much we wanted or needed so ended up just walking around for a bit. The next stop was going to be the tourist market. We had to get a taxi. We'd fitted nicely in 4 taxis on the way but as some of the others wanted to go back to the hotel we managed to get 6 people into one taxi. We didn't buy a lot in the market and walked back to the hotel. It was still early so we went for a wander around the shops.
That night we went to a restaurant that gave all its profits to a children's charity. It was really cool. Sarah didn't eat a lot even her breakfast!!
Cuzco / Ollantaytambo - Day 54 - 22/11/2012 (Thursday)
Later on today we'd be heading to Ollantaytambo where we start our trek the following day. We were allowed to take 6kgs with us on the trek. Tis is what the potters carry. However the sleeping bag and mattress would take up half of that so we had to pack very lightly. Everything else had to be left in Cuzco. Once we'd packed we had to check out of the hotel and had 3 hours to kill before the bus. A few if the group had been to the Inca museum so we decided to go there. It was alright but as we went on the translations to English got less and less and after a while there is only so much pottery you can look at before you get bored.
We went back to Jacks for lunch and then got on the bus to Ollantaytambo. It took about 2 hours but about half way we stopped to take in one of the views. We were on the top of a mountain looking down into the security valley. It was so far down and looked amazing. Once we arrived in Ollantaytambo we checked in and then Martin took us for a walk to see some Inca ruins. The main site was on one side of the valley but this cost a small fortune to get into so we went to some ruins on the other side and watched the sun set over the main ruins. The Inca's really understood about the sun and the sun set right over and in line with the ruins. It was stunning to watch. We walked around the hill side a bit more and then went back to town.
Shock horror we went out for dinner with the group but it was a tame one given the hike started the next day!
