(On the way to) Pisco - Day 66 - 04/12/2012 (Tuesday)
Woke up to find my shorts were still wet, oh well. Packed up and got on the our (private) bus. The first stop was in town to buy some snacks and pay for our flight the day before. Danielle got fed up with the lady we had to pay as they demanded US dollars but they wouldn't take her note because it had some writing on it. She snapped and said either take this note or I'm not paying. It was really funny. We then settled down for our 3 hour drive. However we stopped after 20 minutes as there was a tower on the side of the road where we could see a couple of the Nazca lines. Ages later we arrived in a place called Ica. This place has the biggest sand dunes in South America. We stopped at this hotel/restaurant to get changed and then jumped in the dune buggies. The drivers were nutters. Even on the road they went stupidly fast and as soon as we hit the sand dunes they became full on mental. They'd take massive run ups to really steep dunes and then go over the top and down the other side at full speed. It was like a roller coaster without the tracks. Eventually we stopped for some pictures and then grabbed the snow boards off the back. Unlike last time we wouldn't be standing up because the dunes were so steep, instead we'd be lying down on the boards. Martin went first and we all quickly followed apart from one girl as she was a little bit frightened. Eventually they just pushed her lol. We then drove like maniacs to an even higher dune and off we went down the side again. Finally we went to the tallest dune there was. Jumping on the board it was a really long way down but everyone did it and didn't get hurt. We drove back into town and the drivers were even crazier than before if that was even possible. At one point ours went so fast over a dune we took off!! Back in town and rather sandy we had a quick was before getting some lunch. As soon as lunch was done we all jumped in the pool to clean off properly.
An hour or so later we got back on the bus and went to a Pisco distillery. They guide told us something but no idea what then we got a free tasting of a number of the drinks however I (and everyone else) couldn't concentrate on that before there were hundreds of sand flies around and they were biting. All of us left there with loads of bites.
An hour or so later we ended up in a town near Pisco were the we would be staying for the night. The place was tiny. As we were by the coast for the first time in over a month our guide decided we should go for sea food. Sarah and I ended up with soup! Back at the hotel we had a few drinks with one of the group as it was her birthday. We didn't really know her to well so turned in early at about midnight.
Pisco - Day 67 - 05/12/2012 (Wednesday)
We weren't leaving until 12 as there was an optional trip to go to an island and see sea lions and birds but the guide said if we go take a rain jacket as the 100k strong birds fly over the boat and aim at tourists. We gave that a miss and had a lie in. We did go for a short walk around the town but there wasn't much there so just killed time until the bus.
