Colca Canyon - Day 62 - 30/11/2012 (Friday)
We had a private bus to a town called Chivay which was about 5 hours from Arequipa. Before we left we had to give Danielle her first present. A balloon entitled hoppy birthday, with a frog on it (get it lol??). The bus also came with what can only be described as the worst tour guide ever. She was useless. We made a few stops on the way out of town to look at the views we could see from the hotel and continued. About 2 hours in we hit the highest point we would be at on our whole trip; 4910m. At this point we gave Danielle her next present, a bottle of champaign. A few hours later we arrived in Chivay. And went to a restaurant for lunch.
This is the smallest town we have stayed in on the whole trip. Therefore there was nothing to do so we stayed in the room at the hotel. Sarah had a sleep and I was bored ridged.
At 8 we all meet and went to the one pub in town. Ironically it was an Irish bar but there was nothing Irish about it. We ordered our food and drink and it was sub-Bolivian standards. Some people didn't get their drink until after they had finished their food. We gave Danielle her last present, the photo album. She loved it. Everyone then wanted to go to the local club but I stayed back with Simon to help him finish his wine. We headed to the club after and it was rubbish. I stayed for a bit but everyone wanted to leave so I didn't complain and left with them.
Colca Canyon - Day 63 - 01/12/2012 (Saturday)
Our trip to the canyon left at 6am so we had to be up by 5. We jumped on the bus and left. The tour leaded did her from a script readings. We did stop in a few places for pictures and after about 2 hours arrived at the start of the canyon. It's the deepest canyon in the world at over 4km deep but that part was 3 hours from where we were so we wouldn't be seeing that. Instead we stopped in an area known for Condors. We had a couple of hours to sit and look for them. To start with we didn't see many but as time went on we saw loads. After that we were straight on the bus back to town. Was all a little bit disappointing. Back in town we went for lunch and then back to the hotel. Again we had nothing to do and even I fell asleep out of boredom.
At half 4 we all meet up to go to some hot springs. It was only 5 minutes out of town. We spent about an hour in the hot springs. It was just a large warm hot swimming pool but was nice to relax.
That evening we went out for some food, the first place we went to we left because they didn't have anything on the menu. We went somewhere else and then we were back in the hotel and in bed by 9.
Colca Canyon - Day 64 - 02/12/2012 (Sunday)
We had a 5 hour bus back to Arequipa, going back the same way we came. We got dropped off at our old hotel but weren't checking in. We went out for lunch on a balcony overly looking the square. Had a few hours back in the hotel before we got bored again and went for a walk. We bummed into some others from the group and as we passed a bar the happy hour sign came out. I was fate so we had to partake. After that we had another hour in the hotel before going to the bus station. We had a quick goodbye with one of our group who was going on without us as he didn't want to go to the next 2 places then we got on the bus for our last night bus. All in all the last 3 days were all a bit of a waste and I wish we'd done something else :(
